A stale website can hurt SEO, trust, and credibility. Learn how Webflow updates, fresh content, and search engine optimization improve rankings, engagement, and user experience.

Guess the ultimate trust and SEO booster...

...a fresh, active website.

Recently, I was on a call with a client (real-estate niche) to discover how I could help with his website.

Before reaching out, I did what we all do — checked his website.

The design? Clean. The functionality? Impressive.

But then I noticed something troubling: the blog hadn’t been updated since 2021. Their “latest projects” page featured clients I recognized as no longer in business.

It was a stale website (except property lists)—untouched and forgotten.

Of course, not every website needs daily updates. But if you’ve got one, let it breathe. And you got:

Google loves fresh content
↪ Search engines like Google use web crawlers to index and rank sites based on factors like relevance, links, and—yes—freshness. When you add a new blog, update an image, or optimize a page, Google re-evaluates your site’s ranking.

Frequent updates don’t just keep you in Google’s good books; they also help you connect with your audience.

Trust evaporates
↪ If a company doesn’t update its website, what else is it neglecting?

It screams inactivity
↪ A fresh website shows a company is active, aware of trends, and engaged in its space. A stale site? It whispers, “We’ve stopped trying.”

It feels careless
↪ It looks like they’ve put their business on autopilot. If they’re not prioritizing growth, what does that say about their service or product?

Search engines—and your audience—notice fresh content. Regular updates build trust, improve credibility, and signal that your business is thriving.

Here’s how to stay fresh:
↳ Add a blog: Write about industry trends, tips, or client success stories.
↳ Showcase your work: Keep your portfolio current—it’s the first place clients look.
↳ Engage your audience: A new article or post can spark comments, shares, and conversations. Every interaction counts as a mini-update.
Keeping your website active shows you care about your business—and your customers.

When was the last time you updated your website?

If it’s been a while, don’t worry. Minor updates, done consistently, can work wonders.
